How a round goes

  1. Morning: Bloop curled up in its bubble, rolling down the striped ski jump over the sea

    Roll

    Bloop rolls down the ski jump. Hold up to lean in and launch faster.

  2. Noon: Bloop in its bubble under the hang glider, a gold hoop ahead

    Glide

    Open the glider. Dive for speed, pull back to climb, bank to turn.

  3. Sunset: Bloop tucked into its bubble, dropping toward the landing ring on the sea

    Drop

    Over a target, tuck in. The ring on the sea shows where you'd land in still air, so aim upwind.

  4. Night: Bloop beaming on a bullseye worth five times, confetti flying

    Land

    Closer to the middle scores more. A bullseye is 50, times the target's ×1 to ×5, and the last round hides a ×10.

A gold hoop

Hoop chains

Gold hoops give a speed boost. Fly through them back to back to multiply the bonus: ×2, ×3…

Grab the parachute with the anvil and your next landing drops dead.

Columns of rising streaks. Fly in with the glider open and they shoot you up.

Air brake

Hold X while gliding to pop a drogue chute and slow down. Hold it in an updraft and it catches the rising air: way, way higher.

Fly low over open water for bonus points. Just don't touch it.

Ride the wind

Face into the wind when you're slow and it holds you up like a kite.

Controls

Stick / arrows
Up dives, down pulls back, left and right bank. With the ball shut, lean to steer the drop.
X / Z / Space
Start, launch, open the glider, tuck in, continue. Hold it while gliding for the air brake.
M
Sound on or off.
Gamepad
Left stick, and any face button or Start.
Touch
Drag the on-screen stick and tap X (hold it for the air brake).

The Bloop's Big Drop PICO-8 cart

There's a lite version too: Bloop's Big Drop as a PICO‑8 cart, at PICO‑8's chunky 128 by 128 pixels. It has the classic game's gliding, hoops, berries, updrafts, skimming and wind, but not the newer extras: no anvil drop or air brake, no daily course, no online high scores. The whole game lives inside the cart's picture: drag it onto PICO‑8, or open it in Fake‑08 on a handheld.
